Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of pelvic floor muscle exercise
program on urinary incontinence, quality of life and depression. It helps to provide basis
for efficient nursing intervention strat egies.
Fifty- two subjects were randomly assigned to the exercise program and pelvic floor
muscle exercise were taught and monitor ed for 4 weeks. The res earch was conducted in Andong city.
The Following instruments were used:
Stress incontinence was measur ed by the questionnaire that has been developed by
Hendrickson (adapted by Lee young- suk). Quality of life was measured by the questionnaire that has been developed by Ro, You Ja . Depr ession was measured by the questionnaire that has been developed by Shelich and Yesavage(adapted by Song, Mee Sun).
The data was collected during the period from August , 17 to October , 3, 1998. The data
was analyzed by percentage, mean , t - test , ANOVA using SPSS/ PC£« . The results were summarized as follows :
There was significant decrease in level of the urinary incontinence after pelvic floor
muscle exercise.
There was significant decrease in level of the depression after pelvic floor muscle
exercise.
There was significant difference after pelvic floor muscle exercise from urinary
incontinence between urinary frequency and urinary duration.
